Jesse Weathington

Jesse Weathington joins Southern Strategy Group’s Atlanta office with more than 13 years of experience serving Georgia government and campaigns. Possessing a deep background in health care and a record of successfully navigating the maze of Georgia government to affect and improve policy, Jesse has become a trusted adviser to many leading public officials over his career.

Jesse’s first foray into politics began at age 17 as an intern for Georgia State Representative Mark Butler (now Labor Commissioner).  After subsequent work on several campaigns, Jesse was appointed as a policy aide to the Georgia House of Representatives committees on Health & Human Services, Ethics, Science & Technology, and Reapportionment. While there, Jesse worked intensively on the only revision of Georgia’s Certificate of Need statute in decades, as well as the largest reorganization of state government since Jimmy Carter was Governor.

Jesse was then recruited to represent the Department of Community Health, a $12 billion agency which provides health benefits to over 2.2 million people. First as Legislative Liaison then as Director of External Affairs, serving as the youngest senior executive in the department’s history, Jesse successfully led the agency’s relationship management efforts. Jesse returned to the legislature to work for the House Appropriations Committee, where he assumed responsibility for drafting the health budget, allocating approximately $13 billion across the spectrum of health and human services agencies and working with all major industries and stakeholder groups in the health care sector.

Jesse attended the University of Georgia and graduated from Georgia State University (GSU) with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.  While at GSU, Jesse also acquired a Certificate in Health Policy from the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. Jesse has long experience as a public speaker and debater and is recognized as an expert in health and human services.

A native of Carrollton, Georgia, Jesse and his wife Sara live in Atlanta with their son.
