Heather F. Smith, a native of Columbia, South Carolina, is a partner with Southern Strategy Group. Prior to joining Southern Strategy Group, Heather served as the Director for Legislative Affairs with a large lobbying and association management firm in South Carolina. Heather has been key in identifying and summarizing issues that impact clients and responsible for developing messages and talking points for clients regarding these issues. Heather has also served in a key legislative staff role at the state level in the House Judiciary Committee. In this role, Heather served as the liaison for constituents, lobbyists and other government agencies. Heather has managed and coordinated press events for state leaders and clients for more than eight years. Heather began her political career by working on various political campaigns.
Since joining Southern Strategy Group, Heather has been key in securing state budgetary needs for clients and has been instrumental in passing legislation that has a positive impact on the insurance, K-12 education, and higher education communities.
Heather attended John Carroll University where she studied Public Relations and Political Science. While at John Carroll, Heather was co-anchor for the John Carroll news station and served as an intern for Fox Sports. In September of 2000, Heather was asked to sing the National Anthem for the Cleveland Indians Baseball game. Before graduation, Heather left John Carroll University, and moved back to South Carolina where she graduated Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and a Minor in Political Science. Heather is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Golden Key International Honour Society, Kappa Tau Alpha, and Columbia Rotary Chapter. Heather served on the South Carolina Workers Compensation Debit Card Advisory Committee, which led to legislation that updated workers compensation payments. Heather is also the founder of Race for the Case, a 5k race to raise awareness for adoption and foster care through the South Carolina Department of Social Services, and is a recipient of the MUNGO Community Builder Award.
Heather resides in Columbia with her husband and daughter.
