The Central Florida Expressway Authority has named its first executive director — and the first woman to lead the local toll road agency.

Laura Kelley, who previously served as deputy executive director of finance and administration, was unanimously chosen to lead the agency by the board at its May 14 meeting, said a news release.

Kelley, a 30-year transportation industry veteran, had been managing day-to-day-operations of the authority, which was created by a state statute in 2014.

This is the first time the agency — previously known as the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority — has named someone to the top executive position. Kelley is expected to take on the top role once contract negotiations are completed, the release said.
