A bill designed to make it easier to create socially responsible companies has cleared the Florida Legislature and is on the way to the governor’s office.

The bill — SB 654 — would allow for the creation of two  new kinds of companies — social purpose corporations and benefit corporations — and existing companies can amend their bylaws to become one of the new kinds of companies.

The bill passed without a single no vote — not even in a committee, said Shawn Seipler, CEO of Orlando-based Clean The World Foundation Inc. Seipler has previously said his company would become a benefit corporation when the law comes into effect.
